Challenge # 52 is up here – use your embroidery floss!  I made a collage to continue with my wall hanging.  I now have 6 pieces. 🙂 I used the floss to make a vine to complement the advertisement for Vin’s Cafe.

I made this last night. I was so inspired by Marie‘s project – I just loved the idea of making something that wasn’t exactly a scrapbook page. It took me for.e.ver.  I must be the slowest scrapper in the world.

I need to switch out the ribbon for a nice chain of some kind. I think the ribbon makes it too frilly.

Wow…. Body Worlds… what can I say? The words, “ew” and “wow” come to mind. It was both gross and awe inspiring at the same time. I had no idea what this exhibit was before I got there. I had just heard that it was awesome. So when we walked in, they have all these banners up and it says that everything is real bodies. I was like, “what?!” Yes, they are real bodies. Bodies that have been donated and then plastinated, posed and then voila. The idea, of course, is to give people a better understanding of the human body. Show them what incredible machines we are. And it does. They have skeletons with only the full capillary system. They pose the bodies into positions like “skating figure couple” so you can see the use of the muscles. I drew the line at the fetuses. Talk about making me not want to have a baby – they took out the heart of that process, if you know what I mean. They showed diseased organs, like cancer, cirrhosis, emphysema. They had this “I Quit” pledge to quit smoking. It was a plexiglass box and you could fill out a business card pledging to quit smoking. The box was almost full.

Definitely recommend it.

On a brighter, happier note. I finished my final swap before I leave the country. This is for our WCTP, Amber is in the Godzilla Fan Club, and we did altered canvases. This is me faking it with the painting.

Other things on my mind:

  • Listening to the Kooks lately. Love this album.
  • Expecting my new clutch in the mail any day now. Very excited!
  • For some reason, I want to see Get Smart when it comes out in the theatres. It would make a nice change of pace from only going to the movies when it’s the “must see dramatic movie of the year”
  • James and I stopped at this place yesterday. Oh. My. God. This man is a genius!! He’s this very funny french man, who makes the  most delicious, delectable chocolates I have ever tasted. Exotic flavors, no preservatives, so there’s no waxy flavor. The minimum amount of sugar, so it’s not to sickly sweet. I had Hibiscus, Kalamata Olive, Mint Ganache, and Apricot & Chili. OOOOOOOOHHH!!! So good And I have Japanese Green Tea, Pistachio and Lemon Mousse in the fridge calling me.
  • The Weepies have a new CD out, Michelle.

I’ve been crafting and cleaning, as usual. I redid my room.

Can I just say how wonderful it is to get everything off the floor? James is happy about that. I rearranged my desk and now I can access my bookshelf. I used to have it behind my desk and had long term storage in it. Now I put all the things that I use the most often in the shelves and boxes. And I’ve left room for my laptop.

You can see more pictures here

But the coolest thing is this thing here. I use it to put all my tools in and it goes under my desk.

Isn’t it neat? I was inspired by an issue of Marie Claire Idees, where they had painted dahlias on dressers etc. I had taken this picture

dahlias.jpgof some dahlias (my favorite flower), which James altered in photoshop and made into an abstract design. Then we propped my shelf in front of our projector and went to town. It’s like painting by numbers!

I have tons more pictures to share of some recent stuff I’ve made, but I’m afraid this post will be (if it isn’t already) a little long winded.

My sister sent me a little goodie bag to inspire me to make something. It worked. It had a luggage tag, sheet music, some vintage trim, flowers, buttons. And a little felt heart that I embellished.

See? It’s “music in my heart”

There was a piece of bubble wrap that i used to apply some paint. Do you know what my new favorite thing is now? That’s right, painting with bubble wrap.

Then I made a Valentine’s day card for James. And, I’m just going to take a moment and say that this is the coolest thing I have ever made. Here’s a sneak peek (don’t look James!!) It started out bad. Like some science experiment gone wrong. But all I could do is keep going; I had to use the stuff Michelle gave me. And then, voila! It all made sense. I wonder if that is the secret to art. Or my art anyways.

And here are the layouts from my photoswap

And don’t forget to participate in my contest/giveaway!!!

There are so many things that happen in a week and I say “I should blog about this” . Then a week goes by and I haven’t blogged about anything.

I’ve been reorganizing my room. I must say that I love it now. I was able to make room for everything and get rid of stuff that I either hadn’t used or didn’t want. I feel un-crowded and un-cluttered. Sigh!

I was finally able to finish my container swap for WCTP. Here’s a sneaky peek. It’s a mason jar with a tag inside. I poured wax all over the outside, and it looks really cool (and smells good too!) I couldn’t quite capture it well with the camera.

I had this ugly colored caddy that I put my tools in. I finally was able to paint it white and decorated it.

And my new ATC holder. These are the ATC’s I got from my swap at Story of My Life

And James and I made these for breakfast yesterday. Yummy!

Buttermilk pancakes and homemade blueberry & blackberry syrup!

and of course, I will keep up my promise for a RAK! Coming shortly

I did another entry in my art journal last night. This one is for Em’s Art Journal Challenge. The word was commit. Mine is about committing to my New Year resolutions.  I realize that I have absolutely no idea how to paint, and I put myself totally to shame by posting these up here. I paint like a child – no concept of design or color or technique. But whatever!!

don’t mind all the newspaper in the background

I bought an acrylic album and  finally did my Christmas album. I had to actually combine all the holidays this year, because I didn’t take hardly any pictures (can you believe it?) It was fun – and I took some tips from Caroline Ikeji’s acrylic album over at Studio Calico. But it was too late to take pictures by the time I got home from work, so I will post those first thing in the AM!

Right now I am off to watch The Machinist! I’m (always) on a Christian Bale kick. We watched American Psycho – mmmm mmmm mmmm! Hot, hot hot!

We are only 5 days into the New Year and already so many changes have happened.

I convinced James to start an art journal with me. (it didn’t take that much convincing)

Isn’t his amazing? I’d almost ask him to stop if I wasn’t used to his outshining me 🙂

The quote is

Only as high as I reach can I grow
Only as far as I seek can I go
Only as deep as I look can I see
Only as much as I dream can I be

Then mine

It’s kind of silly. But, I know that I will improve if I keep working at it.

I’ve just found out that two of our dear friends are pregnant! Two couples, that is. One of my good friends from college and one of our oldest friends from high school. It’s so amazing to me. Being pregnant is so grown up! I don’t think I’ll ever be ready for that step.

I’ve been in the kitchen a lot lately. So far (from scratch) we’ve made Key Lime pie (delicious), pumpkin pancakes (yummy), lasagna (scrumptious) and today we are having butternut squash soup. Fresh from the crock pot. We got it as a wedding gift, but have never used it. Today was the perfect day for soup.  Over here at Storm Watch 2008, we’ve had nothing but dire warnings from every news station, and it didn’t even rain today. But it was chilly!

I’ve been handwarmer crazed lately. I made 4 of them and intend to make some more. Some to give away, most to keep. I want to make these next. How fun!

I got a holga for Christmas. It’s so much fun. James and I went to the Santa Monica pier to take some piccies. When they are developed (if they turn out any good) then I will post them.

Happy New Year!!!

I felt inspired last night to make a painting of some sort. And since I can’t paint, I thought I would enlist James’s help. He loves to paint. We altered two canvases to tribute two favorite songs.

James of course, took like 4 hours to do his. He’s such a perfectionist! But I love the way it turned out. I’m trying to convince him to do an art journal with me!

And look at my silly girl! I took this pic last night. It’s a little dark, the lens on our slr is only 5.6, but I like it. She’s so dignified – even with a feather birdie on her head!

Look what my boss gave me! It smells so wonderful! And yes, I hung it inside ’cause I’m greedy like that!wreath.jpg

I am so inspired by these. I so want to make some. Right now.

Here’s some pics of me playing on my dad’s WII. So much fun!

I have to go here! Who wants to take a trip with me? (Glenda??)

It’s Christmas Eve – It’s going to be one of those days

This months swap for WCTP is an altered clipboard. It’s a Michaelangelo quote “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free”

Oh! And finally
